Is the Capital City Century a race?
The CCC is not a race. Our ride is purely recreational, although we have some fast riders.
When is the CCC held? Where is it held?
The CCC is always the Sunday after Labor Day.  In 2010, the CCC will be held on Sunday, Sept. 12. A Historic Ride is held the day before the CCC (Saturday). The CCC starts and ends at the Lake Springfield Beach House, 100 Long Bay Drive, Springfield, IL:

Is the route paved or gravel?
The route is entirely paved. Some of our roads have a little gravel on them. We use low-volume (but paved) county roads whenever possible. We modify the route as feasible when road conditions change due to the county’s ongoing resurfacing work.
What is the terrain?
Flat to rolling. The CCC has some small hills and winds through some scenic country, but it is probably the flattest Century ride in downstate Illinois.

Is the route marked, or are you on your own with a map?
Everyone gets a detailed route map, and the route is also well marked on the road using the Dan Henry Marking System (http://www.tulsabicycleclub.com/misc_dan_henry.php)
Can I get a map before the CCC?
Sorry, but we do not provide the route map prior to the event. It is handed out at registration. We often modify the route a bit just before CCC due to road conditions.
Are helmets required?
Helmets are strongly recommended.
