I think a lot of places have rules like this, due to issues with hold-ups and/or robberies. In a car, at least the people doing the crime can be identified with license plates, car description. If someone robs a drive-thru with their bike, the victims have no way to identify who did it. Anyway - why would you go thru a drive-up window on a bike, when it's just as easy to walk inside? :-)

Dave, please post this on the open forum, or what you call it. thanks, lynn

The League of Illinois Bicyclists has received a few complaints from
cyclists who have been denied service at drive up windows. Have you been
denied service at a drive-up window while on your bicycle? Would you
call/email me if you know of any instances where service was denied, or you
were warned that you wouldn't be served 'next time'. Thanks, Lynn Miller,
League of Illinois Bicyclists 217 787-3354. lynnmiller-nospam@nospam-insightbb.com.

The attached is from Maine, where similar issue was resolved by the state
legislature passing a liability waiver to provide access. I've attached the
relevant section.

L.D. 1808 - Maine's NEW Bicycling Laws

8. Liability Waiver to allow Bicyclists at Drive-up Windows
Bicyclists are occasionally refused service at drive-up windows. Many
drive-up windows have longer open hours than lobbies, while some businesses
only have a drive-up window. The new law extends a liability waiver to all
businesses with drive-up windows to allow bicyclists equal access to
businesses including banks, restaurants, pharmacies, ATMs, etc. (14 MRSA
§159-D) (effective, Sept,, 2007)

Greetings Springfield cyclists. I'm in town visiting family and am looking for a bike to rent or borrow while here. I'm staying on Noble Ave. near Cherry Rd.

Preferences: a road bike. I ride a Trek 5020 (58 cm, circa 1997). I brought my own pedals and shoes. Any suggestions are welcome. My cell phone number is 910-470-3105 if you have any leads.

I've already managed to find one for my wife and hope to hit the road at least 3 or 4 times before departing on the 13th. If I can arrange it I'll look for some Springfield Bicycle Club rides to join. I managed to join one from the fairgrounds last spring and had a blast.

The first is to the index, allowing futher linking to about 500 sheets The next is the "cover sheet", showing the overall plan Then there are some sheets showing the temporary routing of the trail - looks like it will be sorta open during construction, with crushed stone for some parts Then plan for the culvert taking the path under MacArthur And two show the bike path bridge over the railroad - will have to rise about 25' from the culvert, and then goes back down to rejoin the existing path on the north side of I-72

Appears they will maintain trail access during most of construction, although crushed gravel in parts

The existing ride rules are posted on this web site. See home page, Ride Rules.

I personally don't think there is much ambiguity in these basic rules. In 2/07, we will begin counting "commuting miles", and there is some ongoing discussion regarding exactly what is meant by this term. However, the basic ride rules as published on this web site remain intact and are quite clear, at least to us old timers.

I'd be more than happy to answer e-mail questions or phone questions regarding our existing rules. I've been in the club for approx. 35 years and have a pretty good idea of how our current rules apply.

I'm sure that our record keeper, Karl Kohlrus, or any other club officer would also answer specific questions regarding mileage and ride rules.

As a new SBC member in 2006 I appreciated the opportunity to ride with others in the Spfld area. As I set my personal and club goals for 2007, I am hopeful that I can get some clarification on SBC submitted mileage rules and an understanding of how to maximize club totals.

Any responses and suggestions would be appreciated.
