October 2020 President's Message

Troy Gilmore | Published on 10/15/2020

SBC Members and Area Cyclists,

The days are certainly getting shorter, which means that I will soon either need to buy more cold weather gear (if I WANT to ride outside) or get the trainer set-up so I can continue cranking out those miles. I hope that your riding adventures can continue be the perfect COVID-release experiences during these trying times.

If you are not riding, are you at least thinking about riding? If so, here are a few things to consider:

First, a small extra supply of the 2020 COVID Capital City Century shirts were purchased by the Club. If you would like one, or an extra one assuming you registered, you can now purchase them by letting me know. Cost is $15 if it is shipped to you, $10 if you pick it up in person.

We are hoping to open the Pactimo store again late this month or early next month. This will be an opportunity for you to buy merchandise that will arrive before Christmas (or just that piece you can’t live without for next season).

2022 marks the 50th anniversary for the Springfield Bicycle Club. We will be looking forward to a year filled with special anniversary rides.

The Board is leading us into the next 50 years by revising the bylaws and membership categories. The bylaws have made it out of committee and passed a vote by the Board. The next step in their approval is to bring them before Club members for a YES/NO vote. More information on membership categories will be released in December for 2021.

Instead of having an annual meeting in person this November, each household Club Member will receive an email asking you to vote on two things: 1) Bylaws revisions and 2) 2021 Board of Directors. Although simple, it is important that you vote (yes, we have all heard that recently). For this vote there is no mail-in ballots or in-person voting. Just two simple yes/no questions.

We are still looking for willing individuals to serve on the Board this next year. Positions from Vice-President to Board Member-at-Large are available. If you wish to use your talents in leading a focused community-oriented service group, please send me a email or give me a call. I’d be glad to tell you more about how you can make a difference in the cycling community.

Lastly, save Friday, January 22, 2021. It is unsure if we will have the annual winter banquet, but wanted you to have the date just in case.

As always, please feel free to contact me anytime at vp@spfldcycling.org.

Be safe. Be well.

Wave to me if we meet on the road or trail.
