Capital City Century

There's still time to sign up for the 2021 CCC

The Capital City Century (CCC), supported by the Springfield Bicycle Club (SBC), rolls out from Centennial Park on the west side of Springfield, Illinois on Saturday, September 11. If you haven't signed up yet but plan to ride, there's no time like the present!

Incentive Awards - July 2021

We're pleased to announce the following winners for the month of July. Congratulations!

Ride of the Month. Troy Gilmore’s evening ride of July 7th was voted Ride of the Month.  The ride, which began at Stuart Park, was touted as a metric century, with stops in Pleasant Plains, Ashland, Petersburg, and Athens.  They had just gotten back to the Sangamon Valley Trail, when a heavy thunderstorm hit.  This is starting to seem like a common occurrence on our rides this summer.  Branches were down on the trail and everybody got soaking wet.  Still, they made it back.  Way to go!  Thanks, Troy.

 Ride Incentive Award. Ted Sunder won the Ride Incentive Award for this month.

Almost Anything Award. There were no nominations for the Almost Anything Award.

"My longest weeknight ride ever! Great group of seven riders going by the Casey's in Plains, Ashland, Tallula, Petersburg, Athens. Two stops at Plains and Petersburg. We got caught in the storm about a half mile from SVT. The wind and rain were so strong, I could barely see and almost got blown over. Sheltered under the viaduct and in the tunnel, a couple of trees down on the trail that we had to climb around."

Sangamon Cycling Series Wraps Up for 2021
Thanks to the 137 cyclists who signed up for this year's SCS. The series ran from May to August, with four "events" of four different distances starting from various Springfield-area parks. For a nominal fee, participants received an SBC t-shirt, aid station support and a chance to win one of 16 gift  certificates to local bike shops. 
 
Thanks also to the many wonderful volunteers who worked at the aid stations and to club members who donated supplies and made monetary contributions to support the SCS.  Events like this would not be possible without your help!
A social was held at Home Plate Bar and Grill on Tuesday, August 31, and was well attended. Many of this year's participants have signed up for the Capital City Century.  
 
Plans are already being made for the 2022 edition of the SCS.
